Recycling
General Information
- All garbage and/or
trash must be enclosed within plastic or treated paper bags no heavier
than 35 lbs each before placing inside your chosen container per Lucas City Ordinance
No. 06-03-02.
- NEW! You may now put your unbagged recyclables into a self-purchased container for collection. You may use any type of container so long as the weight does not exceed 50 lbs., including contents. We will bring labels to mark your own container OR you may purchase a 95-gallon polycart similar to the one we provide for trash that is already labeled "Recycle ONLY". The cost for a polycart is $75.00 (tax & delivery included).
- if you wish to receive an e-mail reminder for recycling day, simply send us an e-mail or call our office and we'll add you to the list. Please call our office to notify us of your intent to use a container instead of bags.
- NOTE that we will not collect recyclables from a container that is not marked with "recycling only". In addition, the regular trash collector will not pick up trash out of a container marked "recycle only".
- Empty cardboard
boxes must be flattened and bundled together or if filled with packing
material, taped shut.
- Brush must be
cut in 4 foot lengths and must be bundled in packages no heavier than 35
lbs. each.
- Your trash must
be at the collection site no later than 7:00 a.m. on your day of service.
- With advanced
notice, up to 2 cubic yard of bulky items will be collected on your regular day of service on any two weeks during the month, within the Bulk Items guidelines listed below.

be placed in a location readily accessible to our collection personnel. In addition,
the area should be free of obstructing vehicles, lawn equipment or other such
items.

Bulk
Items
Please note that any and all bulk pickup services require advanced notice. Bulk items will be picked up on request, at no extra charge on your regular day of service any two weeks during the month, within the following guidelines.
- Please label
any items that are not obvious as refuse.
- Bulk items may
include furniture, appliances, brush or landscaping, multiple boxes, lawn equipment,
light remodeling or carpentry debris (from projects done by the homeowner only),
limited to two (2) cubic yards per collection (approximately the size of a sofa).
- Please note that
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency prohibits the disposal of "white
goods" containing chlorofluorcarbon refrigerants ("CFCs" - freon)
such as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners. These items will not be
collected without a certificate of removal of the CFCs and these will be a $25.00
charge for collection.
- For public health
and safety reasons, the following items will not be collected (including
but not limited to): hazardous waste, roofing material, construction or remodeling
debris done by a contractor, dirt, rock, steel shavings, concrete, hot ashes,
automotive parts, tires, batteries, liquid paint, motor oil, solvents, pool chemicals,
radioactive materials, pathogens, toxic waste, acidic waste, or volatile material.
In addition, any stable matter with great weight, or volume in excess of two (2)
cubic yards (approximately 6'x6'x3', or the area of a full size sofa) must be
scheduled as a "special collection."
Reminders
- Our basic monthly
rate is for normal (up to 120 gallons) single household waste only per
week (businesses, day cares, school, etc. are subject to a higher rate); please
do not share your collection days with friends, relatives, or neighbors.
- Barnes WDS route
personnel are not responsible for trash torn up by animals, and will not collect
trash if there is a menacing or threatening animal guarding your trash or in your
container(s).
